Its 10 pm on Saturday night before the con and I'm feeling smug. Cindy and I have finished the Episode Guide From Hell, and collated our nifty con zine. Sunday, Laura will bind it. I'm thinking what a great job Kath Moonshine did on it (take a bow, Kath -- hell, take two!), when I recall her saying, "You need to write an intro for the zine, for the back of the title page." But the back of the title page is blank. And those pages have been collated into the zines. I face the fact that I have to pull those pages, print the intro on them, and then re-collate them again. This is how St. Epson of the Printers, the Patron Saint of zine producers, teaches you not to be smug! If you're impressed by our zine, thank our contributors who provided us with great material: history, stories, art, jokes, puzzles, limericks, poetry! We've got first time writers who've sent rockin' stories, and veterans who sent luscious fun stuff. But mostly, thank Kath Moonshine who did an amazing job of producing the zine. Just keeping track of what fan is using what fan name is hard enough, never mind trying to remember what fan, who's using what fan name, is using what specific pseud for this fandom (and don't forget she's using different ones for gen and slash)! A BIG thanks to my CONspirators for keeping me semi-sane (better than I expected!), and for hours of grunt work: Kath Moonshine again (you wouldn't envy her the task of patiently explaining to me the point of $20,000 Torino), Cindy, Laura, Rosemary, Elaine, and that clever girl, SHaron! If you enjoy the con packet and have fun at the con, these people are largely responsible. SHareCon attendees, welcome, and have fun. The con room is a church on Sundays (yes, a church!) so let's consider ourselves practicing (we won't say what) in the Church of Starsky & Hutch. Good thing the ceiling is acoustic tile! We've got an interesting mix of first time con-goers--Virgins in These Woods--and battle-scarred veterans. I hope the mix will encourage new ideas, new laughs, and new friendships. I loved the last SHareCon, the one thrown by Martha (April Valentine). I made life-long friends, and got to spend three days doing nothing but Starsky & Hutch. I remember Martha asking me that Sunday if I'd had "enough" of SH to last me a while. And the truth was . . . I hadn't. I was (and am) obsessed with those wonderful boys. At Connexions this year I was wishing aloud for another SHareCon when Linda R. convinced me I could throw it myself. "It's easy," she said, waving a picture of Starsky's butt in front of me. "Rent some hotel space . . . invite some people . . . ." It seemed so reasonable! So, I'm not taking any responsibility. It wasn't my idea. I'm easily swayed by a convincing argument. Unless you have a great time. In that case, I'll take the credit! Come on everyone -- let's SHare!!! love, Flamingo |
